Ahsan Ilyas - Physiotherapist

Ahsan has a strong clinical background in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic physiotherapy, with extensive experience managing both acute and chronic conditions.
Ahsan completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Master’s degree in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy, and is currently undertaking a PhD in Sports and Exercise Science at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). His doctoral research focuses on improving outcomes after ACL reconstruction by integrating psychological interventions with standard rehabilitation, with particular emphasis on knee function, biomechanics, and return-to-sport performance.
He is also actively involved in research, with authorship on multiple peer-reviewed publications (9 research papers) in the areas of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, sports injuries, and clinical physiotherapy.
Clinically, Ahsan specialises in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and is highly experienced in orthopaedic rehabilitation, including pre- and post-operative care (especially knee, ACL, and sports injuries), as well as spinal and peripheral joint conditions. He is recognised for his structured approach to return-to-work and return-to-sport rehabilitation.
He has significant experience in manual therapy, joint mobilisation (Maitland, Mulligan, Kaltenborn), and exercise-based rehabilitation. In addition to his musculoskeletal expertise, he also has clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation, including stroke, balance, and gait re-education.
Ahsan holds international certifications in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and Neurological Rehabilitation, further strengthening his expertise as a musculoskeletal (MSK) and rehabilitation-focused physiotherapist.
Ahsan takes an evidence-based and patient-centred approach, aiming to restore movement, reduce pain, and help patients safely return to their daily activities, work, and sport.
